FAQ
Hotel
1. Do I have to stay at the convention hotel (the Toronto Marriott Bloor Yorkville) if I want to attend the convention?
No, the convention and hotel registrations are separate. There is no requirement for you to stay at the hotel. That said, the RCW 139 special rate is very competitive for a hotel in downtown Toronto in the middle of the summer, and you may enjoy the convention experience even more so by staying there! And the rooms are rather nice.
Registration and Payment
1. Do I have to have a PayPal account to pay?
No, payment can be made using a credit card or bank account through PayPal, without having a PayPal account. Of course, you can also pay using a PayPal account if you choose to do so.
2. Is my payment safe? Does RCW 139 see my banking information?
Payment is processed through PayPal, a secure provider. RCW 139 does not see your banking or credit card information.
3. Can I send in a check or money order?
We only accept payment through PayPal. However, you can choose to fund your payment using a bank account. Please contact us on an individual basis if you are unable to pay through PayPal.
4. How about paying at the door?
For many reasons, payment will not be accepted at the door. Attendance must be known in order for items that have to be produced or procured, and to organize events. Furthermore, the logistics of accepting cash at the door are not ideal. Additionally, there are a number of upfront costs which must be handled before the convention.
Supporting Memberships
1. Previous RCWs included a "supporting membership" for people unable to attend, but who still wanted to support the convention. Will this be possible for 2008?
Absolutely. Supporting memberships are a very important part of RCW 139, and are now available. As per past RCWs, supporting members will receive the "goodie bag" given to every RCW 139 attendee. Supporting member pricing was announced on January 27th. Note that the pricing does NOT include shipping, which will be billed separately in August.
2. What is included in the "goodie bag"?
This has not been decided yet; however, expect a minimum of four to five items, one of those being a T-shirt. The bag will also include a convention program and some Toronto tourist information. Bag items will be in the tradition of previous RCW 139 conventions - examples can be seen on the History of RCW page.
3. When will supporting membership packages be mailed?
Supporting memberhsip packages will be mailed no later than two weeks after receiving payment for shipping, in mid-August. Also, if you have a friend attending the convention, they will be more than welcome to pick up your membership package.
4. Will you ship supporting membership packages overseas?
Yes! We will ship the packages anywhere in the world. Naturally, cost will vary by location or service.
Events
1. Are children invited?
Yes. Due South is a family show and RCW 139 has always been family-friendly. Children may attend all events; however, a responsible adult must accompany all children 11 years old and younger.
2. Is the price of the bus tour included in the convention fee? Do we need to make reservations?
The bus tour will be a separately ticketed item, and the attendance will be limited (to the capacity of the bus!). We're currently still planning the tour, but we will clearly let you know once we've set a price and are ready to accept payment/reservations.
Gala Dinner
1. Is there a vegetarian option?
If you would like a vegetarian meal, or if you have special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance.
RCW 139 is not affiliated with Due South or Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc
